Two young men were killed when two motorcycles collided head-on on the Dhaka-Dinajpur highway in Gobindaganj, Gaibandha.
The accident occurred around 8 a.m. Tuesday in the Shialgara (Tarakkamal) area of the upazila.
The dead were identified as Limon, 28, son of Nazrul Mia of the Pachgachhi Bazar area in Shibpur union, Gobindaganj upazila, and Rubel, 29, son of Shahin Alam of the Chandpara area in Kochashahar union.
Locals said they rushed to the scene Tuesday morning after hearing a loud crash on the highway. They found two motorcycles thrown to either side of the road, with the two riders lying critically injured nearby. Locals rescued them and took them to Gobindaganj Upazila Health Complex.
The doctor on duty at the hospital, finding their condition critical, referred them for advanced treatment to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College (Shajimec) Hospital in Bogura. After they were taken to Bogura by ambulance, doctors there declared both dead.
Mashiur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Gobindaganj Highway Police Station, said the two motorcycle riders were taken to hospital in critical condition after the accident and later sent to Bogura, where doctors pronounced both dead.
