Two people were killed in a collision between a truck and an auto-rickshaw on the Khulna-Satkhira highway. The accident occurred in front of the Rural Electrification Board office on Tuesday afternoon. Several others were injured and admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital.

The deceased were identified as Sheikh Didarul Haque (30) of Shekhpara Sanatankathi village in Horidhali union, Paikgachha upazila, and Tapas Hor, alias Sunu Hor (60), a resident of Baroipara in Horidaskathi village in the same union.

Eyewitnesses and police said a truck loaded with soybean oil was traveling from Khulna to Satkhira when it collided head-on with an auto-rickshaw coming from the opposite direction in front of the Khulna Rural Electrification Board office. At the same time, another auto-rickshaw traveling behind struck the crashed vehicle, throwing its two passengers to the ground. A drum of oil from the pickup van then fell on the heads of auto-rickshaw driver Didarul Haque and passenger Tapas Hor, killing them at the scene.

Harintana police station investigation officer-in-charge Murad Hossain Milon said the deceased had reserved the auto-rickshaw from Paikgachha and were heading toward Khulna, while the truck was carrying oil to Satkhira. The truck driver and helper fled after the accident. Police rescued the injured and admitted them to Khulna Medical College Hospital.
