Since the current government took office through July 2026, the loans of 1,434,482 farmers nationwide who had taken out loans of up to 10,000 taka have been waived, along with interest.
Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury shared the information Sunday (Sept. 6) in parliament, in response to a written question from Md. Ruhul Amin, opposition (Jamaat-e-Islami) lawmaker from Chuadanga-2.
The finance minister said, “By waiving the loans of these farmers who had taken out up to 10,000 taka, with interest, the government has paid banks the 1,352.74 crore taka owed to them.” He said farmers in every upazila of the country benefited under this loan-waiver program.
Meanwhile, responding to another question about the number of taxpayers in Chuadanga district, the finance minister said the district currently has 72,463 taxpayers with a Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN), of whom 21,567 filed returns in the 2025-26 tax year.
