An uncle and nephew were killed by lightning while fishing in a haor wetland in Karimganj upazila, Kishoreganj.
The incident occurred around 7am Saturday (September 12) at Chongnoagaon haor in Sutarpara union of the upazila.
The deceased were Shah Alam, 38, son of the late Ishaq Mia, and Mokarram Hossain, 24, son of Nazrul Islam, both of Chongnoagaon village. They were uncle and nephew.
Local residents said Shah Alam and Mokarram went to the haor in front of their village around 7am with fishing nets. Lightning struck amid light rain, killing them instantly at the scene.
When they had not returned home by 10am, relatives went to search for them in the haor. They later found the bodies lying in knee-deep water. Police went to the scene after being informed.
Local residents said Mokarram Hossain worked at a garment factory in Dhaka. He had recently come home on leave and gotten married. Shah Alam worked as a labourer on paddy-carrying boats.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Soheb Khan confirmed the incident, saying: “Police were sent to the scene after receiving news that two people had died from lightning strikes. The subsequent legal process is underway.”
