Rumana Malik Munmun began her journey in showbiz through the “Lux-Channel i Superstar 2006” competition. She came to acting with the film “Daruchini Dip,” directed by Tauquir Ahmed, and later acted in television dramas. But beyond her identity as an actor, it was as a presenter that she became popular.

Having settled in Canada some years ago, Munmun was away from showbiz for a long time. She recently came back to the country. Taking part in a podcast, she had said she would return to the presenter’s chair if offered a research-based show — not merely to be on screen, but to do quality work that would touch people.

That hope has been fulfilled. She has recently joined a show called “Legend and Legacy,” in which her guests will be people from acting, music, art and literature. Broadcasting has already begun. Dancer Shamim Ara Nipa was her guest in the first episode. In coming episodes Munmun will talk to theatre figure Mamunur Rashid, Abul Hayat, Tariq Anam Khan, singers Ferdousi Rahman, Aditi Mohsin and Nakib Khan, magician Jewel Aich, novelist Nasreen Jahan and architect Rafiq Azam, among others.

“Legend and Legacy” is directed by Sajjad Hussain, who directed the talk show “Amar Ami” for more than a decade. It was through “Amar Ami” that Munmun became popular as a presenter.

On the new programme, Sajjad Hussain said: “The programme has been built around accomplished people from various fields. Considering Bangladesh’s history, we have tried to have as guests those who have played a role in various spheres. The production house Kahini Studios wanted to make a programme that would remain as an archive, where the life stories of the accomplished would work as inspiration for viewers. We designed the programme that way.”

On choosing Munmun as presenter, Sajjad said: “After deciding the plan for the programme we thought of several presenters, but in the end none quite fitted. Then it occurred to me that Munmun would be very good here. After discussing it with the producer I spoke to her. I have a long working relationship with Munmun — we have done shows together year after year, so she easily understood my plan. When Munmun came to the country we shot from July 5 to 8 according to the plan agreed in advance. It felt to me as though I had shot some new episodes of Amar Ami, because its reflection will be found in this.”

“Legend and Legacy” is being broadcast on the Kahini Studios YouTube channel and the OTT platform Bongo. A new episode of the 13-part programme will be released each week.
