Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir president Nurul Islam Saddam has said Sheikh Hasina’s government committed mega corruption through mega projects. He said large projects create opportunities for large-scale corruption. He made the remarks as chief guest at a reception for students who achieved GPA-5 in the SSC, Dakhil and equivalent examinations, held at the Shilpakala Academy on Shaista Khan Road in Narayanganj metro on Wednesday (September 16) afternoon. The event was organised by Narayanganj Metro Islami Chhatra Shibir.
Nurul Islam Saddam said: “They did mega projects and committed mega corruption. They looted mega amounts of money, because mega projects allow for mega corruption.” He alleged that 234 billion dollars was siphoned out of the country during Sheikh Hasina’s government. He claimed this money could have built 10 to 12 bridges the size of the Padma Bridge. The 2024 economic white paper had presented an estimate of roughly 234 billion dollars in illicit financial outflows from Bangladesh between 2009 and 2023.
The Shibir president also said the country’s MPs and ministers do not send their own children to study domestically, and go abroad themselves for medical treatment. He described the day the country’s MPs and ministers choose to be treated at government hospitals as an indicator of the nation’s progress. Pointing out that the country’s crisis is not one of talent but of honesty and patriotism, he said: “There is no shortage of talent in our country, no crisis there at all. The crisis is one of honesty and patriotism.”
The event, chaired by Narayanganj Metro Islami Chhatra Shibir president Amit Hasan, was attended by the organisation’s former central president and Narayanganj metro ameer, Maulana Abdul Jabbar; engineer Sirajul Islam; central literary secretary Saidul Islam; metro secretary Amjad Hossain; and various other leaders and activists.
