DHAKA — Bangladesh’s meteorological department warned Saturday that seven districts could face thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds by evening on May 9. Officials said pre-monsoon storms were possible across the affected areas.
The department said gusty showers or rain accompanied by thunder could occur in parts of Khulna, Bagerhat, Satkhira, Pirojpur, Barguna, Nilphamari and Panchagarh districts. It urged residents to stay alert and to remain indoors during lightning.
In a Facebook post, the department said the bulletin was primarily a lightning warning and was not intended to indicate the onset, duration or amount of rainfall.
Lightning can strike before, during or after rain, the department said, adding that the risk can persist for at least 30 minutes after the last clap of thunder is heard.
