The country’s Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra sea ports have been asked to keep local warning signal number three hoisted.
The information was given in a special weather forecast issued for the country’s sea ports on Wednesday. It said the deep depression that had been over north Odisha and the adjoining coast of Gangetic West Bengal has moved westward and now lies over north Odisha and the adjoining area of south Jharkhand. It may move further west and gradually weaken. A steep pressure gradient prevails over the north Bay of Bengal and the adjoining coastal area of Bangladesh. Under its influence, squally or gusty wind may sweep over the sea ports, the north Bay of Bengal and the adjoining coastal area of Bangladesh.
All fishing boats and trawlers over the north Bay of Bengal have also been asked to move with caution close to the coast until further notice.
A separate special weather bulletin said temporary rain or thundershowers accompanied by squally or gusty wind from the south or south-east at a speed of 45 to 60 kilometres an hour may occur over the regions of Rajshahi, Pabna, Dhaka, Faridpur, Jashore, Kushtia, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar.
River ports in these areas have been asked to hoist warning signal number one from 9am to 6pm on Wednesday.
