Nearly 1,000 children have died of measles in 5 months

Five more people have died in the country from measles or measles-like symptoms. The information was disclosed in the Directorate General of Health Services’ regular report on the measles situation, issued Thursday, August 27.

The Directorate General of Health Services said 3 deaths from measles-like symptoms occurred in Dhaka division alone in the past 24 hours. Alongside this, 2 more children died from measles-like symptoms in Sylhet division during the same period. During this time, 1,031 new cases of measles or measles-like symptoms were recorded.

Since March 15, over roughly five months, 955 children have died from measles or measles-like symptoms. Of these, 856 died with measles-like symptoms and 99 died after being confirmed with measles.

Nationwide, 75 new confirmed measles cases were recorded in the past 24 hours. During the same period, another 956 people showed symptoms of the disease. This brings the total number of people showing measles-like symptoms since March 15 through Thursday to 153,692. Additionally, a total of 18,726 confirmed measles cases have been recorded during this period.

The Directorate General of Health Services said that, from March 15 through Thursday, a total of 134,437 people were hospitalized nationwide with measles or measles-like symptoms. Of these, 129,489 have since recovered and been discharged from hospitals.
