Measles, related symptoms kill 4 more in 24 hours

Four more people died with measles symptoms in the past 24 hours, health officials said, bringing the total death toll from measles and measles-like symptoms since March 15 to 983.

The information was released Wednesday in the Directorate General of Health Services’ regular press statement on the measles situation.

According to the statement, of the four people who died in the latest 24-hour period (8 a.m. Tuesday to 8 a.m. Wednesday), three were from Dhaka division and one from Mymensingh division. That brings the total number of deaths with measles symptoms since March 15 to 884, while 99 people have died after a confirmed measles diagnosis.

Across the country, 1,034 more people showed measles symptoms in the past 24 hours, and 63 more were confirmed to have measles infections.

The Directorate General of Health Services said the total number of suspected measles cases nationwide since March 15 has reached 160,184, with 19,447 confirmed cases. During that period, 140,472 people have been hospitalized, and 135,417 have recovered and been discharged.
