Dr Dipu Moni, a minister and member of parliament under the ousted Awami League government, is being released from jail for 12 hours following the death of her husband.

Munshiganj Additional District Magistrate Md Rezaul Karim confirmed the information Wednesday afternoon.

He said that, based on an application from Dr Dipu Moni’s daughter, she has been granted parole for 12 hours, from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Thursday.

He said: “The district magistrate has the authority to grant release for a maximum of 12 hours during daylight hours. Anything beyond that requires government approval.”

The Munshiganj district administration official said the decision was made after discussing the legal aspects following the application from Dipu Moni’s daughter.

Former minister Dr Dipu Moni’s husband, Barrister Toufique Nawaz, died Tuesday night while undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
