National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Organizer Sarjis Alam has said there has been no discussion within the party about leaving the 11-party alliance. “We are in the alliance, and we will stay,” he said.

He said there is a cordial relationship among alliance members. He noted that the alliance’s leader, the Jamaat Amir, visited their office some time ago. He said they are trying to play the role of a capable opposition, both inside and outside parliament.

He made the remarks speaking to reporters Thursday afternoon, August 27, after an organizational coordination meeting and political workshop organized by the Feni district unit of the National Citizen Party.

Sarjis Alam said that despite remaining in the 11-party alliance, the NCP will contest the upcoming local government elections independently. He said this is a major opportunity to build the organization’s base. He said participating in these elections will sharpen the skills of the party’s organizers and help them develop professionally, which in turn will help the NCP perform well in the next national parliamentary election. For this reason, he said, they will field candidates at every level — district, upazila, city, municipality and union. “We may not win everywhere; some places will go well, others won’t. That’s not a problem, but we will contest to win. And this will not create any issue for the 11-party alliance.”
