19 modern hostels approved for 10 medical colleges

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved 10 projects, including a project to replace and rebuild unusable structures at Dhaka Medical College and the construction of 19 modern hostel buildings across 10 medical colleges.

The total cost of implementing these projects has been set at Tk 9,333.58 crore. Of these, six are new projects and four are revised projects that received final approval. Of the approved cost, Tk 8,488.71 crore will come from government funding, and Tk 844.87 crore will be arranged as project loans.

The ECNEC meeting was held Wednesday afternoon, August 19, at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital, chaired by Prime Minister Tareque Rahman.

State Minister for Planning Zonayed Saki disclosed this information after the meeting.

The state minister said the approved projects include, under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, a project to replace and rebuild unusable structures at Dhaka Medical College, along with the construction of 19 modern hostel buildings for students across 10 medical colleges.

A project under the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, aimed at strengthening the Roads and Highways Department’s capacity in modern bridge maintenance technology, also received approval.

Under the Ministry of Water Resources, two projects were approved: one to protect Lalmonirhat Sadar upazila from erosion by the Dharla river, and another to strengthen the coastal embankment in Chattogram’s Sitakunda.

A rural road rehabilitation and strengthening project under the Local Government Division, and a capacity-strengthening project under the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, also received final approval.
