Norway’s goal machine, Erling Haaland, has maintained his fine form at the 2026 World Cup. His brace helped Norway beat Senegal 3-2 and secure a place in the last 32 from Group I.

In the match at the New Jersey Stadium in New York, both sides played attacking football from the start, but the first goal did not come until the 43rd minute, when the substitute Pedersen seized on an error by Senegal captain Kalidou Koulibaly to put Norway ahead.

Norway became even more dangerous after the break. In the 48th minute, Haaland made it 2-0 from a precise pass by captain Martin Odegaard. But just five minutes later, Ismaila Sarr pulled one back from a superb Sadio Mane pass, hinting at a Senegal comeback.

In the 58th minute, however, Haaland scored again. Getting a chance inside the box, the Manchester City forward drove the ball into the net with a powerful shot for his second goal and Norway’s third.

Ismaila Sarr scored his second in added time to reduce the margin, but Norway left the field with a 3-2 win.

With this win, Norway have a full six points from two matches and secured their place in the knockout round. Senegal, beaten for a second match running, now face the threat of elimination; even a win in their final match could leave the African side dependent on results in other groups. Haaland, meanwhile, has taken his tally for the tournament to four, level with France’s Kylian Mbappe and second in the race for the Golden Boot, behind the Argentine great Lionel Messi.
