US President Donald Trump has claimed that all sea mines laid by Iran in the Strait of Hormuz during the war with the United States have now been cleared.

He said the US Navy, with the help of satellites and the Space Force, searched the critical waterway and rendered it mine-free.

Trump made the announcement in a post on his own social media platform, Truth Social, on Tuesday. He also warned Iran that the United States would pursue a “zero tolerance” policy to prevent any new mines from being laid in the Hormuz Strait.

Trump said the US Navy, with the assistance of the US Defense Force’s satellites and Space Force, searched every section of the Strait of Hormuz. He said orders have been given to destroy any warship or vessel sent there in an attempt to lay mines again.

Six months expected, finished in four

The 167-kilometer-long Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important energy transit routes, carrying roughly one-fifth of the world’s total energy shipments. Iran lies on one side of the strait and Oman on the other.

After the war with the United States began on February 28, Tehran imposed a blockade on foreign shipping through Hormuz. In response, the United States declared a blockade on Iran’s maritime ports.

To enforce its blockade, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) laid more than a dozen sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz, raising concerns over the security of this critical waterway.

Amid the situation, Trump announced in mid-March that the Strait of Hormuz would be cleared of mines. US forces then deployed specialized vessels known as “littoral combat ships” to remove the mines in mid-April.

After the mine-clearing operation began, US defense forces said it could take roughly six months to fully clear the Strait of Hormuz of mines.

Trump has now claimed the mine-clearing work was completed within four months — ahead of that timeline. He also warned of strict military action should new mines be laid in Hormuz in the future.
