A code of conduct has been issued for Union Parishad elections ahead of the upcoming local government polls, barring the chairs of educational institutions’ management committees from institution-related activity. Under the code, a management committee chair cannot be involved in any activity related to the educational institution before the election.
The Election Commission recently published the gazette for the code of conduct, alongside codes for municipality, city corporation, upazila and district council elections.
On restrictions covering participation in educational institutions’ management boards ahead of the election, the code states that if a contesting candidate has previously been elected or nominated as chair or member of an educational institution’s management board, they may not preside over or take part in any meeting of that institution, or be involved in any of its activities, during the pre-election period.
It further states that during the pre-election period, no project funded from the revenue or development budget of any government, semi-government or autonomous institution may be approved, announced, have its foundation laid, or have its plaque unveiled.
During the pre-election period, no VIP may announce or allocate any grant, or release any funds, from the coffers of a government, statutory, semi-government or autonomous institution in favor of any individual, group or organization.
During the pre-election period, a Union Parishad chairman, member or other office-holder may not approve any development project in the relevant Union Parishad area, or release or disburse funds for any previously approved project.
