Bangladeshi film “Roid” has won the Critics’ Choice Award for Best Asian Film at the 4th Da Nang Asian Film Festival in Vietnam, adding to the growing international recognition for the country’s cinema.
Directed by Mejbaur Rahman Sumon, the film stars Mostafizur Noor Imran and Nazifa Tushi in the lead roles, with Gazi Rakayet, Ahsabul Yamin Riad, and others in supporting parts.
“The Critics’ Choice Award always carries a special significance,” Tushi said. “Receiving this as the best Asian film reminds us that audiences both at home and abroad have embraced ‘Roid.’ As a film actress, this is a tremendous honor for me. It is an achievement and a point of pride for the entire team. I am very happy as a film actress.”
“Roid” had its international premiere at the prestigious 55th Rotterdam International Film Festival, where it was officially selected for the main competition section, the Tiger Competition. The film was later released in Bangladesh during Eid and also screened internationally.
The film tells the story of an unconventional human relationship — a saint and his mentally unstable wife navigating the struggles of life together.
