Human welfare cannot be fully ensured by any law made by humans. To ensure human welfare, one must submit to the law of the Creator — to the Quran, to the Prophet. After such a simple admission, anyone may ask themselves: have I submitted myself to Allah’s law, to the Quran, or have I sold myself to greed, infatuation and self-interest? Have I become a bearer of peace according to the law of the Quran, or have I lost myself in the dark pit of strife, violence and robbery?

Islam is a way of life in which human welfare, justice and the assurance of peace are given the highest importance. Allah says: “Indeed, Allah commands justice, good conduct and giving to relatives, and forbids immorality, wrongdoing and transgression” (Surah An-Nahl, verse 90). In the light of this principle, it is obligatory for a Muslim to declare jihad against all forms of corruption — rape, murder, enforced disappearance, theft, robbery, mugging, interest, bribery, extortion, syndicates, profiteering and hoarding — because such crimes do not merely break the law but destroy the peace, security and human values of society.

To ensure justice in society, a fair and accountable system of justice must be established so that ordinary people’s lives, property and honour remain safe. On this, Allah says: “And there is for you in legal retribution (qisas) life, O people of understanding” (Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 179). Islam likewise places great importance on the dignity of human life. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “The destruction of the world is lighter to Allah than the killing of an innocent person.” But Islam never supports emotion-driven judgement or mob justice. Punishing anyone without proper evidence of a crime is contrary to the justice of Islam; yet, sadly, true justice today is often called into question in the name of political influence, abuse of power and public anger. Allah says: “And do not let the hatred of a people prevent you from being just. Be just; that is nearer to righteousness” (Surah Al-Maidah, verse 8).

Alongside the suppression of crime and the assurance of justice, Islam has also stood firmly for women’s true dignity, security and rights. Islam has given women the right to education, property, maintenance, honour and security, ensuring the highest dignity as a mother and an honourable life as a wife. Yet, in the name of modernity, women are at times reduced to objects of a consumerist culture, which is not true honour. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “The best of you is the one who is best to his family.” He also said: “Paradise lies at the feet of the mother.”

Islam has likewise stood firmly against interest, bribery and economic plunder, which are among the causes of a society’s ruin. Such wrongs increase inequality, exploitation and injustice among people. Market syndicates, the hoarding of goods and artificial crises make ordinary people’s lives unbearable and destroy human balance. Allah says: “Allah has permitted trade and forbidden interest” (Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 275). The Prophet (peace be upon him) cursed both the giver and the taker of bribes.

On the question of justice and human welfare, there is no scope for discrimination by nation, race, religion or class. Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Christians — all people have the right to justice and respect. Division, oppression and human-rights violations for any political interest can never be acceptable. Allah says: “Indeed, I have created you into nations and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most honoured of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you” (Surah Al-Hujurat, verse 13).

Likewise, Islam is against obscenity, moral decay and unrestrained relationships, and for the family, social order and moral values, because a healthy family is the foundation of a healthy society and civilisation. Allah says: “And do not approach unlawful sexual intercourse. Indeed, it is an immorality and an evil way” (Surah Al-Isra, verse 32).

The religion strongly opposes child labour, war, genocide and the oppression of innocent people. Injustice and crimes against humanity anywhere in the world are a stain. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Help your brother, whether he is an oppressor or oppressed.” The companions asked: “We understand helping the oppressed, but how do we help the oppressor?” He said: “By restraining him from oppression.”

True humanity never tolerates injustice, oppression, corruption or moral decay; rather, a peaceful society is built only through the establishment of truth, justice, morality and human welfare. So, if we want the true welfare of society, the state and humanity, we should firmly hold to the Creator’s justice-based ordinances, honesty, accountability and moral values — because only justice and morality can establish a safe, peaceful and humane society.
