Bangladesh Bank Governor Md Mostakur Rahman has given the chairman and managing director of Sammilito Islami Bank the necessary instructions to protect depositors’ interests and restore the bank’s operations to normal.
The governor gave the instructions Tuesday morning when Sammilito Islami Bank PLC Chairman Kazi Shairul Hasan and Managing Director Abedur Rahman Sikder met with him.
Bangladesh Bank Deputy Governors Dr Md Habibur Rahman, Dr Md Kabir Ahmed, Md Sarwar Hossain and Md Anisur Rahman were also present.
The governor said the finance minister had announced in parliament that there would be no “haircut” of any kind on depositors’ profits. However, he said, some ambiguity still remains among depositors on this issue. He said Sammilito Islami Bank must therefore make clear to all its depositors that there will be no haircut of any kind on their profits.
He further said that funds are already being returned to depositors under the policy announced on December 29, 2025. He also instructed bank authorities to take the necessary steps to allow individual depositors, starting September 1, to withdraw the principal amount from their Al-Wadiah current accounts, Mudaraba savings accounts and Mudaraba term deposits as needed.
The governor also instructed Sammilito Islami Bank to take the necessary steps to restore normal banking operations as quickly as possible.
