The Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until the United States fulfills the terms of its interim memorandum of understanding with Iran, Iranian parliament Speaker and lead negotiator Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf has said.
Al Jazeera reported Tuesday, August 18, citing Qalibaf, that the Strait of Hormuz will not open until the commitments the United States made in the memorandum are fulfilled. These include lifting the naval blockade, releasing Iran’s frozen assets, and withdrawing oil sanctions.
Qalibaf further said the United States must halt all threats and military operations on every front. He said Washington must also implement all the other terms it agreed to in the memorandum.
He said: “I want to state this clearly: the Strait of Hormuz will not be opened until these commitments are fulfilled, lifting the blockade, releasing frozen assets, withdrawing oil sanctions, halting threats and military operations on every front, and implementing every other term the United States agreed to in the memorandum.”
