Any law in the constitution that contradicts the Quran and Hadith is automatically void, and there is no question of accepting any law that contradicts sharia, said Maulana Abdul Malek, khatib of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.

He made the remarks Wednesday morning at a “Shan-e-Risalat” conference organized by Hefazat-e-Islam at the Kotiadi Government Pilot High School grounds in Kishoreganj. The conference featured discussions on the life and teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and various aspects of Islamic sharia.

Maulana Abdul Malek said lawmakers may draw on Western laws and provisions, but domestic legal frameworks cannot be considered equivalent to Islamic sharia. If any law has been mistakenly enacted or included in the constitution that directly contradicts the clear guidance of the Quran and Hadith, he said, it must be amended or repealed.

He said members of parliament take an oath to protect and uphold the constitution. But if any constitutional provision conflicts with the Quran, Hadith, articles of faith, or the fundamental principles of Islamic sharia, he said, steps must be taken to amend it. It is not enough, he said, merely to protest laws that contradict sharia — effective steps must be taken to change or repeal them.

On the subject of Qadianis, Maulana Abdul Malek said they claim to be Muslims and say they perform prayers and pay zakat, and various Islamic symbols can be seen at their places of worship. However, he said, their articles of faith and beliefs differ fundamentally from mainstream Islamic belief.

He said the world is home to people of various faiths, including Hindus, Buddhists and Christians, who openly identify as followers of their respective religions. But he said Qadianis have long been at the center of a theological dispute within the Muslim community, calling them deceivers and describing them as “Dajjal.”

The conference was chaired by Maulana Shabbir Ahmad Rashid, president of the Kishoreganj district unit of Hefazat-e-Islam. Leaders and activists of Hefazat-e-Islam at various levels, Islamic scholars, and a large number of worshippers attended.

Speakers emphasized following the life and example of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), upholding Islamic values, and raising awareness on religious matters. A festive atmosphere prevailed at the Kotiadi Government Pilot High School grounds from the morning, with leaders, activists and members of the public in attendance throughout the conference.
