Anti-terrorism case filed in Narail’s Lohagara; two arrested

Police in Lohagara upazila, Narail, have filed a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act against leaders and activists of the banned Awami League, Jubo League and Chhatra League. Two Chhatra League leaders named in the case have been arrested and sent to court.

Md Jahidul Alam Jhunu, a local Sramik Dal leader, filed the case Saturday afternoon, August 22, naming 17 people and accusing another 20 to 25 unidentified individuals. The case was registered as Case No. 17, dated August 22, 2026.

Abdur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Lohagara police station, confirmed the case to reporters Sunday morning.

The accused named in the case are: Babul Munshi, son of Siru Munshi of Karafa village; Riazul Member, son of Kader Molla of Gilatala village; Toriqul Khan, son of Mannan Khan of Kashipur village; Wahid Kazi, son of Emdad Kazi of Boyra village; Rahul Sheikh, son of Rafiqul Sheikh of Padmabila village; Farid Member, son of Mannaf Sheikh of Ishangati village; Sadar Uddin Shamim and his brother Sagir Uddin Sonnet, sons of the late Younus Sheikh of Gopinathpur village; Moshiar Rahman Sheikh, son of Sattar Sheikh of Ula village; Abdul Kader Sheikh, son of Shahidur Rahman of Babra village; Babu Sikder, son of Azimuddin Sikder of Gopinathpur village; Palash Sheikh, son of Bokkar Sheikh of the same village; Sajib Raj, son of Bashi Molla of Lahuria Dohorpara; Islam Sheikh, son of Ismail Sheikh of Itna; Suhas Sheikh, son of Motiar Rahman Sheikh of the same village; Wahidul Gazi, son of Jalil Gazi of Dholoitola village; and Khairul Sheikh, son of Dholu Sheikh of the same village — along with another 20 to 25 unidentified individuals.

According to police and the case documents, the named and unidentified accused are members of the banned Awami League, Jubo League, Chhatra League and their affiliated organizations. Around 3 p.m. on August 21, the accused allegedly staged a procession on the Chachai-CD Bazar road near the home of Moshiar Jamaddar in Chachai village, Joypur union, Lohagara, shouting what the case describes as provocative slogans against the current government. The case alleges they then spread videos of the procession on Facebook and other social media platforms as part of a deliberate campaign of false propaganda, committing an offense in front of the public.

OC Abdur Rahman said two of the accused — Sheikh Sagir Uddin Sonnet, 28, a Chhatra League leader and son of the late Younus Sheikh of Gopinathpur village, and Abdul Kader Sheikh, 31, a Chhatra League leader and son of Shahidur Rahman of Babra village, Joypur union — were arrested late Saturday night. They were sent to court Sunday morning after completing legal formalities, the officer said.
