Six cows have been killed by lightning in the North Charmontaz and Nayar Char villages of Charmontaz union in Patuakhali’s Rangabali upazila. On the same day, a farmer named Alamgir Sardar (45) was tragically killed by lightning in West Charkajal village of the neighbouring Galachipa upazila. Alamgir Sardar was a resident of West Charkajal village and the son of the late Ahmed Sardar.
According to local sources, lightning struck six cows in the fields of North Charmontaz and Nayar Char villages during rain and lightning around 11am on Friday, killing the animals on the spot and leaving the affected farmers facing significant financial loss. Separately, Alamgir Sardar had left home to offer Friday prayers; when it began to rain, he went to bring his cows from a field beside his home, and was suddenly struck by lightning and killed on the spot.
After prayers, family members went out to look for him, and at one point saw from a distance several cows gathered in one place; going closer, they found Alamgir Sardar’s body lying on the ground. The news cast a shadow of grief over the area. The two separate incidents have caused anxiety among locals, who have demanded help for the affected farmers and necessary government support for the dead farmer’s family. Charkajal police outpost SI Kamal confirmed the incidents.
