Bayern Munich and Germany forward Jamal Musiala collapsed on the pitch during a friendly match against RB Leipzig, alarming everyone present. The 23-year-old midfielder went down shortly after scoring a goal. Bayern, however, has said the star player is now doing well.
Musiala came on as a substitute and scored in the 81st minute of the match, which Bayern went on to win 3-1. Speaking to reporters after the match, Bayern sporting director Max Eberl sought to ease concerns over Musiala.
“The most important thing is that he’s fine. There’s nothing more to say beyond that,” Eberl said. Club officials, however, did not offer further detail on why Musiala had collapsed on the pitch.
Musiala went down roughly 15 minutes after coming on. Medical staff from both teams rushed to attend to him. He got up on his own afterward and walked toward the tunnel, though he appeared visibly shaken. He was substituted off in the 88th minute.
German media reports suggested the episode may have been caused by sudden dizziness. The temperature in Munich at the time was above 30 degrees Celsius. Bayern has not yet confirmed the exact cause of the incident and says it will monitor his condition.
The timing of the episode has naturally revived discussion of Musiala’s recent injury troubles. Last summer, he suffered a serious leg injury, fracturing his fibula, in a Club World Cup match against Paris Saint-Germain. He was sidelined for several months afterward.
Musiala returned to the pitch in January and has since been working to return to his best form. He was also part of Germany’s 2026 World Cup squad. Given how carefully his recovery had been managed, this latest incident has left many concerned.
The 23-year-old footballer recently returned to team training after following an individual rehabilitation program. Bayern had been carefully managing his playing workload, and he had even cut short his summer break to work toward full fitness.
For now, initial signs are positive. Bayern is hoping the episode was a temporary reaction to heat or dizziness, and not a new setback for a player the club has high hopes for this season.
