7 detained over attempted CID-impersonation kidnapping in Magura

Sreepur police have detained seven members of an organized gang over an alleged attempt to kidnap a woman in Magura by posing as CID police officers.

They were detained in an operation carried out in the Nakol Paschimpara area of Sreepur upazila late Tuesday night into Wednesday, August 26.

The seven detained are: Mosa. Asma Khatun, 31, of Paglakhana village, Jhenaidah district; Hasanuzzaman, 28, of Pabhati area; Osman Gani, 25, of Paglakhana; Salman Shah, 25, of Arabpur area; Sakib, 23, of Naldanga area; Chhabbir Hossain, 22, of Kalighat area, Kurigram district; and Al-Amin Hossain, 22, of Debila village, Shalikha upazila, Magura district.

Speaking at a press conference at the district police superintendent’s office Wednesday afternoon, August 26, Superintendent of Police Molla Azad Hossain said the gang had been attempting to kidnap a woman identified as Shrabani using a microbus. Acting on a tip, Nakol camp police reached the scene quickly, prompting the gang to try to flee. Police, led by Magura Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops) Khairul Hasan, carried out the operation and succeeded in detaining them.

A search of the detainees turned up four aprons marked “CID,” a toy pistol and eight mobile phones. Police also seized the microbus used by the group.

He further said the mastermind behind the kidnapping plot, identified as Shimul, the victim Shrabani’s second husband, remains at large, and that police operations to arrest him are ongoing. The detainees will be charged under the relevant sections and sent to court.
