Cows given free to poor families in Maheshpur

Cows have been distributed free of charge, with training, to extremely poor and vulnerable families at the grounds of Fatepur Gazironnesa Girls’ School in Maheshpur, Jhenaidah, to help them become self-reliant and improve their living standards. The initiative was organised by RDC with financial support from the Bangladesh NGO Foundation (BNF).

The distribution on Thursday afternoon was chaired by Abdur Rahman, executive head of the human rights organisation RDC, with upazila nirbahi officer Md Sajjad Hossain as chief guest.

Special guests included Maheshpur police station OC (investigation) Enayed Hossain, upazila livestock office representative Dr Rezaul Islam, Fatepur UP member Asad, former BGB officer Motiur Rahman, former UP member Motiar Rahman and Gazironnesa Girls’ School headteacher Abul Kalam Azad. Assistant teacher Oliullah moderated, with overall support from RDC programme supervisor Md Osman Gani.

Funded by the Bangladesh NGO Foundation and implemented by RDC, the cows and training were given to six families in Fatepur and Natima unions of Maheshpur upazila.
