Licences for private hospitals, clinics, diagnostic centres, dental clinics and medical check-up centres have been extended from one year to two years. The decision takes effect in fiscal 2026-27 following instructions from the Health Services Division of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The Directorate General of Health Services said applicants must pay the two-year licence fee and VAT together into the government treasury and apply through its HSM website. New facilities must obtain an online location or environmental clearance from the Department of Environment. Facilities that use narcotics or controlled drugs must also obtain the applicable narcotics licence after receiving a new licence.

The authorities are to arrange for relevant Department of Environment and Department of Narcotics Control licences to remain valid for two years. Officials from the DGHS, divisional directors, civil surgeons and upazila health and family-planning officers will inspect private health facilities regularly. Licences may be suspended or cancelled if inspections find irregularities or violations. The instruction was signed by DGHS director for hospitals and clinics Dr Mohammad Nurul Islam with the director general’s approval.
