Four memoranda of understanding covering bilateral media and information cooperation were signed between Bangladesh and China in the presence of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and Chinese Premier Li Qiang.
Bangladesh’s Information Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan signed the agreements on behalf of the government. The counterparts on the Chinese side were the heads of Xinhua News Agency and China Media Group (CMG).
The four agreements expand cooperation in bilateral news and information exchange; establish a long-term partnership in the media sector; provide for joint research on media in the Global South; and create a framework for cooperation and experience-sharing in technology and broadcasting.
The agreements are expected to strengthen the existing friendly relationship between the two countries and open new horizons for mutual cooperation in the media and information sectors.
Information Minister Swapan had left Dhaka for China on 23 June to join the prime minister’s state visit. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to return to Bangladesh with his delegation on Friday (26 June) night.
