Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman has alleged that many people still operating under false pretenses in the country are conspiring to rehabilitate fascists. He made the remarks at an event in Banani, in the capital, held Wednesday afternoon, August 26, to mark Eid-e-Miladunnabi (peace be upon him).
The law minister said people need to remain vigilant against those seeking to bring back the fascists responsible for what he described as killing thousands of people and leaving 30,000 disabled or blind. A roadmap needs to be drawn up, he said, to ensure no one can rise to become a fascist again.
He said a livable country must be left behind for the next generation. Mistakes will happen while doing this work, he said, but those mistakes must be corrected as the country moves forward. The country must move forward guided by the example of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), he said, toward building a nation that gives people a genuine taste of democracy and the rule of law — one where fascism never returns, and where those now in charge do not themselves become fascists.
The law minister also called for moving past a culture of opposition for opposition’s sake, and working instead for the country’s welfare.
