Bangladesh’s National University has taken an initiative to expand cooperation with leading universities and health-sector professionals in the Philippines. Under the plan, the two sides have agreed to launch joint training and skills-development programs in technical education, health care, nursing assistance, information technology and tourism studies.
The matters were discussed at a courtesy meeting Tuesday between Philippine Ambassador to Bangladesh Nina P. Kaingles and National University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr A S M Amanullah at the Philippine embassy in Gulshan, Dhaka. The meeting placed particular emphasis on expanding academic and institutional cooperation between National University and leading Philippine universities, including discussion of potential cooperation with the University of the Philippines.
The meeting also discussed involving Bangladeshi students with Philippine health-sector professionals to build skills and create training opportunities as nursing assistants. Both sides agreed to launch joint training and technical skills-development programs at National University, drawing on Philippine experience in health care, nursing assistance, ICT and tourism.
The Philippine ambassador pledged cooperation on launching bilateral exchange programs for National University’s teachers, researchers and students, and on expanding scholarship arrangements to increase opportunities for talented students to pursue higher education in the Philippines.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr A S M Amanullah briefed the ambassador on National University’s ongoing reform initiatives and academic plans. “In this era of globalization, the exchange of experience and knowledge with renowned Philippine universities will help elevate our students to international standards,” he said.
Praising National University’s academic network and its role in expanding education across the country, the ambassador pledged the Philippine government’s support for any form of cooperation in education.
The meeting was attended by National University International Desk Director Raj Bin Kasem and officials from various departments, along with senior representatives from the Philippine embassy.
The two sides exchanged commemorative honors at the conclusion of the discussion.
