Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has said no country will be allowed to obstruct free navigation, particularly through the Strait of Hormuz, Bab-el-Mandeb and the Red Sea. Al Jazeera reported the comments. He made the remarks at a press conference in El Alamein on Thursday.

He said: “A threat to navigation is a direct threat to regional and international security.”

Abdelatty further said that disruptions to shipping are damaging global supply chains. He said maintaining freedom of navigation in all key straits, in line with the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, is therefore extremely important.

Shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has fallen significantly, while fresh concerns have also emerged over security in the Red Sea and other key surrounding shipping routes.
