College teacher’s body recovered a day after going missing in Noakhali

The body of a college teacher, Mahmudun Nabi, 39, also known as Samrat, has been recovered in Noakhali’s Companiganj upazila, a day after he went missing.

His body was recovered Monday afternoon, August 17, from a pond beside a mosque in front of Moulana Ali Ahammad’s house, in Ward 4 of the upazila’s Rampur union.

Mahmudun Nabi, also known as Samrat, was the son of Moinul Haque Ratan of the area and taught at the local West Bank College.

According to local sources, Samrat left home Sunday morning, August 16, and had been missing since. Family members searched for him at various locations but could not find him. Local residents spotted his body in the mosque pond near his home on Monday. Relatives came to the scene after being informed and identified the body.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Anwar Hossain of Companiganj Police Station said: “After being informed, I went to the scene and recovered the body based on information from local residents. An inquest report was then prepared at the scene. No injury marks were found on the body.”

He added that the body had been sent to the morgue at the 250-bed Noakhali General Hospital for autopsy. The exact cause of death will be known once the autopsy report is received.
