Jamaat-e-Islami Amir and parliamentary opposition leader Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has extended heartfelt congratulations to Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on his election as Bangladesh’s 23rd president.
In a post on his verified Facebook account Thursday, August 20, he wished the president-elect good health and a long life.
His Facebook post read in full:
“Today, August 20, 2026, Bangladesh’s 23rd presidential election was held. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Mr. Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on his election as the 23rd president in this election.
“I hope that, in the days ahead, he will bring his utmost ability and wisdom to bear as the state’s guardian in upholding justice, elevating democracy, and protecting the country’s independence and sovereignty.
“I wish the newly elected president, Mr. Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, good health and a long life.”
