The government is set to implement a new pay structure for its officials and employees. The cabinet approved the new pay structure at a meeting at the Secretariat today, Monday.
A secretary present at the meeting confirmed the information to reporters afterward. A short time later, the Cabinet Division held a press briefing to share further details. The cabinet approved the pay scale outlined below.
Earlier, to recommend implementation of a new pay structure for government employees, a 10-member committee chaired by Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani was formed on April 21. That committee had recommended raising the basic salary of government employees from grade 1 to grade 20 by up to 100 percent.
The committee had proposed implementing the increase in two phases — basic salary in the first year, and house rent and other allowances in the second year, according to the discussions at the time. The Prime Minister’s Office recently published an e-book titled “180 Days of the People’s Government,” covering the government’s activities to mark its 180th day. A subsection titled “The Ninth Pay Scale: Big News for Government Employees” highlighted the implementation of the new pay scale.
Before that, nearly a dozen years after the eighth pay commission, the interim government had formed a 23-member ninth national pay commission, led by former finance secretary Zakir Ahmed Khan, on July 27, 2025. The commission submitted its report to the interim government in January. That commission had recommended keeping the existing 20 grades in place while raising pay and allowances by 100 to 140 percent. It had recommended raising the minimum basic salary from 8,250 taka to 20,000 taka, and raising the maximum pay structure from the set 78,000 taka to a set 160,000 taka.
