Narail Chhatra Dal leader expelled after yaba video goes viral

G.M. Mashrafi, propaganda secretary of the Chhatra Dal unit at Lohagara Government Adarsha College in Narail, has been expelled from the party after a video of him using yaba spread on Facebook. The expulsion was confirmed Monday night, August 24, in a press release signed by Syed Rubaiyat Turshed Shathil, senior joint convener of the district Chhatra Dal.

The video and photos of G.M. Mashrafi, propaganda secretary of the Lohagara Government Adarsha College unit, using yaba recently circulated on Facebook. The video shows the Chhatra Dal leader sitting in a secluded, tree-covered spot while using yaba, though the exact location is not known. After the video went viral on social media, it triggered widespread discussion and criticism, following which he was expelled from the party.

Attempts to reach Chhatra Dal leader G.M. Mashrafi for comment were unsuccessful.

The press release, signed by district Chhatra Dal senior joint convener Syed Rubaiyat Turshed Shathil, stated: “In accordance with the decision of the Bangladesh Nationalist Chhatra Dal, Narail district unit, G.M. Mashrafi, propaganda secretary of the Lohagara Government Adarsha College unit, is hereby expelled from his organizational post based on specific allegations of violating organizational discipline.”

The directive was issued by Narail district Chhatra Dal convener Mahmudul Hasan Sony, senior joint convener Syed Rubaiyat Turshed Shathil, and member secretary Mamun Gazi.
