A section of the Joyrampur-Kumaridah connecting road in Hauli union of Damurhuda upazila, Chuadanga, has collapsed following continuous heavy rain. Direct road communication between the two villages has effectively been cut, forcing students, farmers, traders and other daily commuters to use a longer alternative route.
According to local residents, the continuous downpour that began before dawn on Friday (July 10) washed away the soil beneath the road behind the Joyrampur Kathaltala mosque. At one point a roughly 15-foot stretch caved in, leaving the road unfit for traffic and severely disrupting the transport of farm produce, local trade and everyday movement.
Moslem Ali, a resident of Kumaridah village, said that after overnight rain he woke to find a large section of the road broken away. Reaching his destination now meant taking a roundabout route, he said, adding to both time and hardship.
Kalu Sheikh, a local trader, said hundreds of people used the road every day and that the collapse had also hurt business. Hardship would only grow if repairs were not carried out quickly, he said.
Arifur Islam Milon, another local resident, said the road was very important for the people of Joyrampur and Kumaridah, and warned that a serious accident could happen at any time if it was not repaired soon.
Nizam Uddin, the acting chairman of Hauli Union Parishad, said steps had been taken to inspect the site after the collapse was reported, and that repair work would begin quickly in coordination with the relevant department.
Residents, meanwhile, complained that although parts of the road were at risk of breaking every monsoon season, no permanent solution had been taken. They demanded quick repairs along with durable, long-term infrastructure.
