BNP acting secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said the party has adopted a zero-tolerance policy toward anyone engaging in extortion or land-grabbing while invoking the party’s name.

He issued a stern warning that, once specific evidence is found, strict organizational action will be taken immediately against those accused.

He gave the warning Wednesday, August 26, in response to reporters’ questions at a prayer gathering held at BNP’s central office in Naya Paltan to mark the holy occasion of Eid-e-Miladunnabi.

Reiterating the zero-tolerance policy against extortionists, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said clearly that if anyone is found to be engaged in extortion or land-grabbing using the party’s name, and an investigation confirms the truth of that allegation, immediate and strict organizational action will be taken against them.

He said BNP has always shown solidarity with the public and has kept its commitments. He said the government is implementing the promises made before the election with great sincerity.

Rejecting the opposition’s allegations of failure in its assessment of the government’s first 180 days, he called it a sweeping generalization by the opposition.

He said various international and economic institutions are processing data on the government’s work and issuing positive assessments.

Asked by reporters when BNP’s national council would be held, Rizvi said discussions on the council are under way within the party’s policymaking forum, but that a specific day, date and month have not yet been finalized. Once a final decision is made, he said, it will be formally announced to everyone.

He also thanked the government for the swift arrest of the perpetrator in the recent killing of four members of a single family in Rangpur. He said that while the overall situation is not bad, improvement is still needed.

Various levels of leaders and activists from BNP’s central and affiliated organizations attended the event.
