A clip from an old episode of Channel i’s live talk show ‘To the Point’ has gone viral on social media. The episode, which aired before the political upheaval of 2024, featured former military officer and politician Shahjahan Omar Bir Uttam as a guest, with Soma Islam as the presenter.

In the clip, Soma Islam directly questioned BNP’s leadership, asking: “Does Tarique Rahman actually love Bangladesh or democracy?”

The video was shared on Thursday by M Abdullah, joint editor of the daily Amar Desh, and Al Jazeera investigative journalist Zulkarnain Saer. It has since been viewed approximately 350,000 times.

In the pre-2024 talk show, Soma Islam described BNP’s situation at the time as a “leadership crisis,” noting that grassroots workers were frustrated and lacked proper direction. She also pointed out that “the party chief is based abroad, holding virtual meetings and apologizing to the public every day, which is making the party’s future uncertain.”

She further asked whether any demand for a leadership change had emerged within BNP.
