State Minister for Social Welfare Farzana Sharmin MP has issued a stern warning on ensuring ordinary people’s rights and access to government benefits. She said that if anyone engages in corruption rather than delivering the public’s dues, or tries to misappropriate what ordinary people are entitled to, no offender — whoever they may be — will be shown any leniency.
She made the remarks as chief guest at a discussion meeting on implementing various programmes of the Ministry of Social Welfare, held at the Gazaria upazila auditorium in Munshiganj at noon on Friday (19 June).
Referring to the current economic situation, the state minister said the present government is working to develop the country as a whole while standing on a fragile economy. In these difficult circumstances, she said, no trifling with or corruption of the people’s dues would be tolerated, and immediate, strict legal action would be taken against those involved in irregularities.
She added that the present government is a government for all, regardless of party or opinion. “The prime minister is working tirelessly day and night to maintain the country’s stability and improve people’s fortunes, rushing from one end of the country to the other,” she said. “Stand by the government, cooperate with us; if this government ensures good governance, every citizen of the country will enjoy its benefits.”
The event, presided over by Munshiganj Deputy Commissioner Syeda Nurmahal Ashrafi, was attended as special guests by Munshiganj-3 MP Md Kamruzzaman Ratan, Superintendent of Police Md Menhajul Alam (PPM) and Gazaria Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Umme Hafsa Nadia. Senior officials of the Ministry of Social Welfare and a large number of local BNP and affiliated-organisation leaders and workers were also present.
After the meeting, State Minister Farzana Sharmin distributed wheelchairs among helpless and disabled people of the area. Earlier, when the state minister arrived in Gazaria, leaders and workers of the district and upazila BNP and its associate bodies greeted her with flowers and welcomed her to the venue with a large motorcycle procession.
