He made these remarks as chief guest at a cheque distribution ceremony for one-time financial grants to distressed, helpless, sick, disabled and meritorious poor students, held Friday (September 11) afternoon at the upazila auditorium hall, organised by the Ulipur upazila administration and upazila social services office in Kurigram.
During the event, one-time financial grant cheques were handed to 18 disadvantaged people.
Abdul Khalek said the government stands beside economically disadvantaged people. Efforts are being made to offer some support to those facing financial hardship, he said, describing it as part of that ongoing programme. Such initiatives, he said, will continue to improve people’s living standards and help them become self-reliant.
He further said that since becoming prime minister, Tareque Rahman has been working tirelessly to protect the basic rights of the country’s people. If God keeps him in good health, he said, this continuity will be maintained and it will be possible to secure the basic rights of the country’s people. No young person will be left behind if they have knowledge and the right skills, he said. Turning every young man and woman in the area into skilled manpower is one of the government’s key goals. Gaining skills, he said, will create opportunities for young people to build their own future while also playing an important role in the country’s economy.
The event was hosted by former Chhatra Dal leader and Puja Udjapan Front district unit member secretary Swapan Kumar Saha. Others who spoke included Ulipur police station officer-in-charge (OC) Shawkat Ali Sarkar, upazila BNP former general secretary Aftab Uddin Mondal, district Krishok Dal joint convener and former student leader Abu Jafar Sohel Rana, Rangpur Polytechnic Institute former GS Firoz Kabir Kajol, former BNP leader Aminul Islam, upazila Jubo Dal joint convener Moinul Islam Moin, Nazmul Huda, and upazila Krishok Dal convener Abdur Rahman Raju, among others.
