Police have arrested a drug dealer named Hazrat Ali (55) with 16 kg of cannabis in Chuadanga. He was arrested from Subdia village on the Chuadanga-Jhenaidah road at about 8:45am on Monday (8 June). Hazrat Ali is the son of the late Akkas Ali of Hakimpur village in the district’s Alamdanga upazila. The information was given in a press release issued on behalf of the district police at about 3pm.
The release said that, under the overall direction of Superintendent of Police Mohammad Ruhul Kabir Khan, anti-drug and anti-smuggling operations are being conducted simultaneously across all district police units. As part of this, a police team led by sub-inspector (SI) Shariful Islam raided on the basis of secret information and detained Hazrat Ali, recovering 16 kg of cannabis from a coffee-coloured travel bag strapped to his shoulder.
Confirming the incident, Chuadanga Sadar police station officer-in-charge Md Mizanur Rahman told Naya Diganta that a case had been filed at the Sadar station over the seized cannabis and that the detained accused had been sent to the Chuadanga court.
