CHUADANGA — Border Guard Bangladesh seized a large quantity of illegal Chinese-style fishing nets during a special task force operation in Damurhuda upazila of Chuadanga district on Thursday.
The operation was conducted from morning until afternoon in the villages of Bishnupur, Juranpur and Natipota in Damurhuda upazila.
Md. Haydar Ali, assistant director of BGB Chuadanga-6 Battalion, confirmed the seizure in a press release at 3 p.m. Thursday. According to the release, the battalion received intelligence that illegal Chinese-style fishing nets were being stockpiled in the three villages. Based on that information, BGB led a special task force operation from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The operation, led by Haydar Ali, included a platoon of BGB members along with Damurhuda Assistant Commissioner (Land) KH Tashfiqur Rahman, Damurhuda Assistant Fisheries Officer Md. Faruk Mahaldar and members of Damurhuda Thana police. The task force seized 100 illegally stored Chinese-style fishing nets worth 15 lakh taka in total. The seized nets were destroyed in the presence of the participating officials.
BGB conducts regular operations against smuggling, illegal hoarding and environmentally destructive materials in the Chuadanga-6 Battalion area, and the operations will continue in the future, the release said.
