Two friends die 24 hours apart while seeking treatment in India

The bodies of two friends from Gazipur, who had traveled to India for medical treatment, have returned to the country through the Darshana border in Chuadanga.

They died 24 hours apart while under treatment at a hospital in Kolkata. A third friend, who had accompanied them to India, completed the necessary legal procedures and brought both bodies back through the Darshana International Immigration Checkpoint on the night of August 16.

The deceased are Md Habibur Rahman, 58, of the Fulbaria area in Kapasia upazila, Gazipur, and Billal Majhi, 50, of the Kaliganj area.

According to immigration and family sources, Habibur Rahman and Billal Majhi traveled to India through the Darshana immigration checkpoint on June 15 for medical treatment. There, they were admitted to MR Bangur Hospital in Kolkata. While under treatment, Billal Majhi, who had liver cancer, died at 9:15 p.m. on August 9. The following day, August 10, at 7:47 p.m., Habibur Rahman died from complications related to a stroke.

Following the two friends’ deaths, their companion, Md Abu Nahid, 45, completed the necessary immigration and administrative procedures in India.

The two bodies subsequently arrived at the Darshana International Immigration Checkpoint on the evening of August 16. With assistance from BGB and BSF, the bodies were handed over to relatives following completion of legal procedures.

Sub-Inspector Md Tariq of the Darshana International Immigration Checkpoint confirmed the incident, saying all legal and formal procedures were completed before the bodies were handed over to relatives.
