BEIJING — U.S. President Donald Trump arrived in China on Wednesday evening, beginning a two-day state visit and his first trip to the country in nearly a decade, Chinese state news agency Xinhua confirmed.

Trump is visiting at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping and will remain in China through May 15, the report said. Several senior executives from major U.S. tech companies are accompanying him.

Before leaving Washington, Trump said trade would be the main topic of the visit but added that there would also be lengthy discussions about the war involving Iran.

Analysts said Trump’s agenda will be complex, with bilateral cooperation, business and trade, tariffs and technology likely to share the agenda with Taiwan and Iran. If the talks do not succeed, tensions between the two sides could escalate, analysts said.
