More than 350,000 patients in the Gaza Strip currently need urgent medicine, but the amount of medical supplies entering the territory is not enough to meet that need, said Mohammed Abu Afash, director of the Palestinian Medical Relief Society.

In an interview with Al Jazeera, he said that unless a mechanism is put in place to let medical aid into Gaza, the territory’s health situation will grow even more dire.

Mohammed Abu Afash said there is a shortage of the medicine and other medical supplies needed to treat a large number of patients. The volume of aid currently entering Gaza, he said, is not sufficient to meet people’s needs.

He warned that unless the supply of urgent medical materials continues, the strain on Gaza’s health system will grow further, making it extremely difficult to ensure patients receive treatment.

The Palestinian Medical Relief Society official stressed the need for fast and adequate medical aid to reach Gaza.
