Professor Dr Shah Md Atiqul Hoque of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) has not yet taken up his post despite being appointed treasurer, and says he has no intention of doing so.
Professor Atiqul Hoque disclosed the decision in a post on his personal Facebook account Monday afternoon.
“I’m asking everyone: please don’t congratulate me,” he wrote. “This is not a post written about something to celebrate.”
Explaining his decision not to take up the treasurer’s post, he wrote: “I also want to let you all know that I have not yet taken up the post of treasurer, and I have no intention of doing so. I have informed the relevant authorities of this decision.”
Describing a period of complications and inner conflict, Professor Atiqul Hoque wrote: “After failing to navigate a number of difficult situations, I feel it’s best to continue doing the work in which I find comfort and satisfaction.”
Reflecting on his career, he wrote: “As a person, I try to do the best I can within my ability. I still enjoy the work I began as a lecturer in 2006.”
Professor Dr Shah Md Atiqul Hoque has asked everyone not to congratulate him on his appointment as treasurer for this reason.
It may be noted that a notification signed by Md Shah Alam Siraj, assistant secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education, appointed him treasurer of SUST this morning.
