Jessore’s International Peace School and College is moving forward with a commitment to pair modern, up-to-date education with the teaching of the Quran and Sunnah, ethics and humane values among its students. In keeping with this, the institution held its “Quran Lesson-Giving Ceremony 2026,” at which 38 students were given the first lesson (sabak) of the holy Quran.
At the ceremony, held on the institution’s premises on Thursday (September 17), Jessore Aminia Kamil (postgraduate) Madrasa principal Maulana Sakhawat Hossain attended as chief guest. Chaired by International Peace School and College Jessore chairman G M Abu Foysal, the event’s welcome address was delivered by the institution’s principal, Sarafat Hossain. Special guests included the institution’s advisers, engineer Khondaker Rashiduzzaman Ratan and Dr Mahbubur Rahman. Also present were the institution’s executive secretary, Gaosul Azam; directors Mostafa Kamal, Azizur Rahman Moshiur and Rezwan Ahmed; along with teachers, students, guardians and other dignitaries.
Speakers at the event said a child’s real education is not confined to textbooks alone; alongside acquiring knowledge, developing ethics, discipline, ideals and humane values is essential. International Peace School and College, they said, is combining modern education with the teaching of the Quran and Sunnah in an effort to raise students who are knowledgeable, ethical and responsible. Speakers added that the institution hopes every child can spread beauty and good into their family, society and country, like a lotus or a rose. Teaching the Quran, they said, is not just about learning to read it, but also about building the mindset to understand its teachings and ideals and reflect them in daily life.
Guardians express satisfaction
Guardians at the event praised the institution’s education programme, saying they were satisfied that their children now had the chance to be educated in modern schooling and Quran teaching at the same time. Guardian Md Rafiqul Islam said: “We want our child to be educated in modern schooling while also being enlightened by the teachings of the Quran. The way International Peace School has combined regular studies with Quran education is very encouraging for us as parents.”
Guardian Mosammat Nazma Akter said: “Because of how busy we often are, we don’t always get the chance to teach our child the Quran regularly at home. The teachers at school are carrying out that duty sincerely. Our children are developing an interest in, and good habits around, reading the Quran, and that brings us joy.” Guardian Md Abdullah Al Mamun said: “Here, students aren’t prepared only for good results; importance is also given to their character, discipline and ethics. We are reassured to see our children’s growing interest in prayer and good deeds.”
The institution said that, alongside developing students’ talent and potential, building ethical and humane qualities is one of the main goals of International Peace School and College. It said its education programme will continue, aiming to enrich future generations with the ideals of the Quran and Sunnah alongside modern knowledge, so they can contribute to the welfare of their family, society and country. At the end of the ceremony, the 38 students were presented with a copy of the holy Quran, followed by a special prayer for the students’ bright futures, success in their religious lives, and the overall welfare of the institution.
