Iran has been rebuilding its military capabilities far more rapidly than anticipated following the war that began in late February, surprising Israeli military and intelligence officials, according to a report by the Jerusalem Post.
The report said Iran is quickly reconstituting ballistic missiles and other offensive capabilities. Israeli officials believe Iran is producing new weapons faster than expected.
According to the report, Iran had approximately 1,300 missiles in June 2025. By February 2026, just before the war began, that number had risen to about 2,500.
US intelligence officials also reported in May that Iran was rebuilding its military capacity faster than their forecasts had predicted. Chinese supply of missile components to Iran has continued, according to US officials cited in the report.
Meanwhile, the United States’ own stockpile of long-range precision munitions has been significantly depleted, the report noted. Should a new large-scale military operation against Iran become necessary, Washington would have to rely more heavily on riskier air strikes.
The Israel Defense Forces said Iran’s military capabilities suffered significant damage during the war. The IDF said it is regularly monitoring Iran’s reconstruction efforts and updating its assessments and readiness accordingly.
