Russian forces launched a massive overnight barrage of drones and missiles across Ukraine on Monday (July 6), killing at least 10 people in Kyiv and injuring more than a dozen others, Al Jazeera reported.

Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, said 46 people were injured in the capital. One more person was killed and 10 injured in areas surrounding Kyiv. Ukraine’s military said Russia fired 68 missiles and 351 drones overnight.

According to the Kyiv Independent, the first explosions were heard at approximately 1:40 am local time, followed by further blasts at 2:10 am and 3:15 am.

Thousands of residents across Ukraine took shelter underground after air-raid sirens sounded. Tkachenko said at least 15 buildings were damaged in Kyiv. Rescue operations were underway across the capital, and the death toll could rise further.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned on Sunday night that Russian forces could launch even more intense attacks. He said intelligence agencies had indicated Russia was preparing for further large-scale strikes.

The war between Ukraine and Russia has been ongoing for more than four years, with heavy casualties reported on both sides. There are no signs of the conflict ending, with the scale of hostilities continuing to escalate.
