Indian actress Anupama Parameswaran has spoken about a bitter experience during a relationship with a former partner. She says the relationship left her suffering prolonged mental stress and anxiety, including bouts of body tremors, fainting, vomiting after eating, weight loss and a serious eye problem that eventually required surgery.
Anupama made the comments while discussing her experience on the show “I Am With Dhanya Varma.” She said the mental stress from the roughly two-year relationship gradually began affecting her physical health as well.
Anupama said she had never faced such problems before. “I was a happy child. I lived a normal life. Nothing like this had ever happened before,” she said.
Her body would shake with anxiety
Anupama said she regularly suffered panic attacks and severe anxiety during that period, at times losing control of her own body.
“Suddenly our legs would start shaking, our hands would shake, and we couldn’t even control it,” she said, adding that she also had episodes resembling loss of consciousness several times.
The mental stress also affected her eating habits. Many things that came up in conversations with her former partner would leave her anxious. Anupama said that if something said by that person, or some incident, unsettled her after she had eaten, she would vomit.
Losing weight, and trouble on set
Because of the excessive anxiety, her weight was also dropping rapidly. Anupama said people around her could tell something was wrong, but she was unable to explain her inner state to anyone at the time.
It affected her work on set as well. Her right eye would twitch uncontrollably, at times forcing filming to stop.
“Problems would start in my right eye. It would twitch so badly that we’d have to stop filming. There was no way to make it stop,” she said.
Crying for hours, then surgery
Anupama said that during that period she would cry for hours almost every day. It affected her tear ducts. At one point, a tear duct shifted out of its normal position and became swollen.
“I would cry for hours every night. Then I’d have to get up in the morning and go to set. Suddenly my tear duct dropped down. It became swollen. I had to have surgery,” she said.
Anupama also mentioned that one side of her eye appeared swollen during promotions for the film “Parde.” She said the tear duct had dropped completely, and doctors later operated to stitch it back into its correct position.
Anupama said the effects of that relationship were not limited to the eye problem alone. It left wounds in her body and mind, she said, that may never fully heal.
‘Narcissistic abuse,’ Anupama says
Anupama had earlier described her relationship with her former partner as “narcissistic abuse” in a social media post.
She said that at the start of the relationship, excessive love and attention made her feel emotionally so entangled that she felt like the luckiest person in the world. Later, the behavior would suddenly change, and the relationship would become extremely difficult.
According to Anupama, this would be followed by an admission of fault, an apology, tears and a promise it would not happen again — after which the same cycle of affection and abuse would repeat.
She has not named her former partner
Anupama has not disclosed the identity of her former partner in her comments. Indian media had previously speculated about a relationship with actor Dhruv Vikram. Talk of a relationship between them grew after they worked together on director Mari Selvaraj’s film “Bison Kaalamaadan” in 2025.
However, Anupama did not name Dhruv Vikram in her recent remarks. Dhruv has also not publicly confirmed or commented on any such relationship or on Anupama’s allegations.
